Ride for Justice raises money for Petit Family Foundation

BRISTOL, Conn. (WTNH) — Hundreds of riders gathered in Bristol for the Ride for Justice, which raises money for the Petit Family Foundation. The foundation gives back to the community in memory of Dr. William Petit’s wife and two daughters who died in the brutal Cheshire home invasion in 2007. It helps educate young people and improve the lives of those dealing with chronic illnesses and victims of domestic violence.

“I think it shows the goodness in the community,” said Dr. William Petit. “People want to get out and help others and they know our mission is to help others.”

Hundreds of motorcycles lined up at St. Paul Catholic High School for the nearly 40 mile ride. This is the sixth year riders have hit the roads for the foundation. More than two dozen of them came all the way from Georgia to be a part of it. Organizers were hoping to raise about $30,000 for the foundation. That means a lot to the Petit family.

“It’s a great feeling for us to have so many people support us,” said William Petit Sr. “They support us throughout the year.”

Organizers were expecting at least 800 bikes and about 2,000 riders. People came to enjoy the fall weather and support the Petit family.

“This is all about Jennifer, Hayley and Michaela,” said Ron Catucci, Chairman and Founder of Ride for Justice. “We’re riding for them today.”

The ride took them through several nearby towns and ended in Cheshire. It brought people together to have a good time and honor the memories of Petit’s wife and daughters. It’s an event that he says they would have enjoyed.

“Jennifer would be the nurse and would want everyone to wear their helmets and be safe,” said Dr. Petit. “Michaela would be bouncing around and wanting to get on all the bikes and Hayley would be taking it all in.”
