PLAINVILLE, Conn. (WTNH)– Thousands hit the street in the heat
Sunday morning running the Petit 5K in Plainville.
Thousands laced up, as thousands more watched on.
ÒWe want to see the runners. ItÕs beautiful, we keep coming
every year,Ó said Adam Kamberi, spectator
ÒWeÕre very proud of him,Ó said Kristen Malek,
spectator.
Surrounded by her grandchildren, they watch her son andÉ
ÒWe cheer him on, thatÕs it, very simple,Ó said Malek.
ItÕs for the 8th annual GE 5K for the Petit Family
Foundation. ItÕs in memory of Dr. William PetitÕs
wife and two daughters who died in the brutal Cheshire home invasion in 2007.
He was out there today with his wife and son. Each step
supports their foundation, which helps educate women in the sciences, improve
the lives of those impacted by chronic illness and those impacted by violence.
And with the heat advisory today, runners were happy to see
the finish line.
ÒPretty hot, yeah it was pretty hot,Ó said Sierra Weiss,
runner.
ÒItÕs a good race, but very hot,Ó said another runner.
Since 2008, theyÕve raised more than $1 million. And with Sunday that total will be boosted even more.
