Bill names state
children's flower after slain Cheshire girl
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A bill naming a state
children's flower after one of the young victims of the deadly 2007 Cheshire
home invasion is heading to the governor.
"Michaela's Four O'Clocks"
would be designated in honor of Michaela Rose Petit, the 11-year-old who was
killed in the home invasion along with her sister and mother.
Dr. William Petit, Michaela's father, recalled in February
how his daughter helped him plant Four O'Clocks and
collect the seeds at the end of each season so they could be replanted the
following spring.
Petit rescued the seeds after the home invasion. They've
been growing at the Connecticut Science Center rooftop as part of an
educational program.
The Senate placed the legislation on its consent calendar Friday night, signifying unanimous agreement. The bill already cleared the House.
