The New Britain Academy for Health Professions has been
awarded a $14,000 grant from the Petit Family Foundation to help fund a major
exhibit at its annual Health Promotion and Wellness Fair. The grant will be used to bring the
"MEGA Body" inflatable exhibit to the fair, which takes place April 9 at
New Britain
High School.
The
"MEGA Body" exhibit is a larger-than-life, walk-through model of the entire
human body. It is a great way for students to
experience the inner workings of various systems and individual parts of the
body. Healthy functioning is depicted, along
with preventative measures to help avoid common diseases.
Maria
Pietrantuono, Health Academy consultant, said the Health Academy is once again fortunate to have
the Petit Family Foundation as a benefactor.
"We
were privileged to have Dr. Bill Petit take three hours out of his busy schedule
to be a guest speaker in Mrs. Malliet's two Health Academy classes recently;
students were inspired by his thoughtful words and wisdom," she said."Dr.
Petit believes in the mission of our Health Academy and how it prepares students to
pursue their passion for healthcare and medicine."
"This
program at NBHS clearly is a model for other high schools in Connecticut as we attempt
to increase the number of students who want to prepare for careers in the STEM
(Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines. The Petit Family Foundation is very
proud to help the Health Academy at NBHS and feels that this
program will excel in helping students towards careers in health related
fields," said Dr. Bill Petit.
Last year, a grant
from the Petit Family Foundation funded the "MEGA Brain" and "MEGA Heart"
exhibits at the health fair at New
Britain High
School.
