The Women’s Center recently
received a $10,000 grant from the Petit Family Foundation. These funds will help
to support the Center’s free and critical primary prevention education in local
schools. During the 2012 fiscal year, the Women’s Center provided more than 700
comprehensive education and prevention programs in our 13-town service area.
These services were provided by specially trained and certified staff and
volunteers in pre-school, elementary, middle and high schools, on college
campuses, as well as to community youth groups, sports teams and
organizations.
Pat Zachman, Executive
Director, stated “this funding
could not have come at a better time, as the fiscal climate continues to challenge non-profits to
do more and more with less and less. The Women’s Center is very grateful to the
Petit Family Foundation for their generous recognition and support of our
efforts to address the potentially
lethal behaviors of dating
violence, date rape, sexual harassment, and bullying
before they take
root.”
The Petit Family Foundation honors the memories
of Jennifer Hawke-Petit, Hayley Elizabeth Petit, and Michaela Rose Petit by
continuing the kindness, idealism and activism that defined their lives. The
Foundation’s funds are given to foster the
education of young people,
especially women in the sciences; to improve the lives of those affected by chronic
illness; and to support efforts to protect and help those affected by violence.
